    Install

The Shocker Hitch Air Equalizer is really easy to install.  Just bolt your existing equalizer / weight distribution head to the air equalizer and then insert into your pickup receiver.  Important, when installing, make sure there is no air in the airbag.  Take out the valve core so the air is totally removed. Then hook up your load bars / weight distribution bars, attach to tow vehicle, then air up air equalizer airbag until forward washers free up (washers closest to the truck).

    FAQ

Will it work on my equalizer, weight-distribution or load leveling hitch?  Yes on most brands. Your weight-distribution head bolts to our air equalizer. Measure the head bolt pattern (not the shank). Our air equalizer fits 2-1/2″ center to center or 3-3/4″ center to center bolt patterns. Fits & bolts to most major brands of weight-distribution hitch heads: Fastway E2, Equalizer, Reese, Husky, Pro Series, Torklift, Blue OX, Camco Eaz Lift & Curt round bar & Curt trutrack or trunnion head. (Does not work with Anderson chain style weight-distribution hitch)

How easy it is to install?  Plan about 20-30 minutes. Check out the install video.

How much air pressure does the air equalizer need?  You add air until the airbag is about 1/8″ off of the truck side, forward bump cushions. Here is a quick video showing how to set air pressure on air equalizer.

Do I have to adjust or reset my current weight-distribution bars or my sway control arm(s)? Generally no. When you attach your existing weight distribution head to the air equalizer, Set it up at the same height on your pickup as you had the hard connection shank. The air equalizer has 2 pin holes in the shank, use the pin hole that is closest to your previous length on your solid connection shank. If this is done, you should be a the same height and length of your previous connection and not have to adjust the length of your weight-distribution or sway control bars.

Does Shocker Hitch sell weight-distribution or sway control bars?  Yes, we have them available with the Shocker Air Equalizer with WD Hitch, Air Equalizer with WD Hitch & Sway Bars or a Shocker Air Equalizer & Sway Bars Kit for your existing WD Hitch. This air equalizer is along made for existing weight distribution hitches on the market. Here is a list of the w-d hitches it works with. Fits & bolts to most major brands of weight-distribution hitch heads: Fastway E2, Equalizer, Reese, Husky, Pro Series, Torklift, Blue OX, Camco Eaz Lift & Curt round bar & Curt trutrack or trunnion head. (Does not work with Anderson chain style weight-distribution hitch) It does however work with friction sway control arms. You can check out our sway control & air equalizer combo kit here:

Thanks for reaching out, Todd. For the Shocker Air Equalizer, you would need a weight distribution hitch head to mount to the air equalizer. From that weight distribution head, you would indeed disconnect your trailer the same way you do now.

    2. We have a 2020 Tundra pulling a 21’ TT and get into a constant up and down bouncing on what seems like a smooth road. Would this setup smooth out that uncomfortable harmony between the two vehicles? It appears to happen when the road/concrete sections were cut and sealed a certain distance apart. It doesn’t happen in all roads, new smooth asphalt doesn’t create the issue.

      Hello Todd,

The Shocker Air Equalizer can help with those issues. It uses the airbag to help filter out the bouncing and jerking motion.

      Thanks,

With the amount of tongue weight you have with your minnie winnie, the weight distribution is probably not needed. With our shocker Air Hitch would be more beneficial to your set up and also work with other trailers. Thanks Gjordin

Q Do you have to release and refill the air bag each time you connect and disconnect the trailer?
      A

If you are not using the trailer and you have it disconnected you should let out air so you are not putting excessive pressure on the bump cushions.

Yes the Air Equalizer will work with air bags. This is because air bags and our hitch work in 2 different directions, air bags are for vertical and our hithes are for the horizontal surging.

Q What difference does the springs on the truck matter.Coil or leaf?
      A

When used in SUVs with coil overs, the hitch and the coil overs tend to work against each other. In them working against each other it usually end in an unsatisfactory ride.

      A

With pick ups our air equalizer can be used with rear coil over spring, it can not be used on SUV with coil overs.
